Acting & Performing

Tuesdays, January 10–February 28; March 6–April 24, 7 - 9 pm

In this class we will learn the basic fundamentals of acting to create a performance.  Here’s a chance to tell your story; each participant will create a short piece based on their passions.  The inspiration will come from past experiences, a compelling moment in your life, or even a piece of art or poetry that moves you.  Learn the secrets of acting and tell your story. Stephen Horvat has an MFA in acting and has used these techniques to create one-man shows and plays at The Cleveland Playhouse and New York City Fringe festival and many others.  Open to all ages and experience levels.

A series of 25+ floor exercises designed to exercise the entire body focusing on the smaller, deeper muscles. For 20 years Suzanne has been working with small groups and individuals. She uses balance as a point of reference as she adjusts students for each exercise. This process gently pops students out of theircurrent patterns and integrates a new way of being. This is pattern-changing work that makes it possible for anybody to identify what is obstructing them from standing with ease or moving with ease, to melt the obstruction (rigidity), and replace it with suppleness, strength, length, and a greater range of motion.

An encounter with our voice and our body as an instrument, for sharing the feeling of being, and for remembering that all that happens is for giving and receiving. Ceremony and communion through simple songs from different parts of the world which take us to the time when magic ruled the Earth, making us feel that it is still present, waiting for us to give it permission to manifest.
We sing:
~ to enter the present, where creation happens
~ to tune into our individual vibration and recover our power
~ to feel the pleasure of hearing our own voice
~ to expand our sonic perception
~ to share, by discovering the beauty of Oneness
~ to remember that sound transforms everything, and that everything is vibration
~ to be Love
~ to heal
~ for the right to be a musical being
~ to remember who we are
And for so many other reasons that we will discover while singing...We invite you to sing!

Music will be awesome, varied and DJ’d by a professional, feedback before and after is welcome. Your whole self is welcome here. Come as you are, and dance your own dance. This is an experiment. YOU are a key element. If you feel something is missing, you may be just the person to bring it. The Big Yes, West Marin Ecstatic Dance (Friday Night)

Fridays, January 13-February 3, March 2, April 6, 8:30 - midnight

I have begun training as a Dancing Freedom facilitator after being astonished, inspired and healed by what my body was capable of teaching me as I was led through this dance practice.  For me, it is just that, a spiritual practice, because it re-aligns and integrates my body, intellect and what is beyond that in a safe container that prescribes no particular movement but rather supports each of us to learn more and more from our own bodies.  So, in that spirit of respecting the teacher within each of us, each "class" in this series will revolve around a theme, involve an hour or more of free movement to a wave of carefully selected music that supports our embodied experience of the five elements: earth, water, fire, air and ether.  There is also time for opportunities to share our wisdom through exercises designed to bring us toward our own centers and out again.
