CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH FOR BEGINNERS
This course is intended for adults interested in Spanish for work, travel, or to better communicate with Spanish-speaking people of the community. We will use a text/work book and other sources to develop vocabulary, basic grammar, sentence structure, and pronunciation along with conversations designed to improve proficiency skills. Brian Kirven has lived and traveled extensively in the Spanish-speaking world, and taught Spanish in Middle and High School for the last five years.

FAMILY DOG 1
A beginning-level class that covers all the fundamentals of good canine manners including sit, down, stay, come, polite greetings, walk nicely on leash, wait at doors and leave it. This class includes fun exercises and games using positive reinforcement but is conducted entirely on leash and does not include “playtime.” The goal of the class is to enhance the relationship between you and your dog. Proof of current vaccinations required at the first class. First class is mandatory for people only. No dogs, please!
This class is limited to 6 dog/handler pairs, and must have a minimum of three pairs to proceed. For dogs 4 months and older. Primary handler must be 18 but children are welcome to attend with an adult.

INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCE

LUNATICO- DANCE PALACE THEATER GROUP
Work with director Tina Taylor and voice instructor Laura Alderdice on weekly acting classes. We will explore a variety of techniques and genres, while working towards a performance of an original contemporary adaptation of Sheridan’s “A School For Scandal” in June. Set in contemporary Washington, D.C., it’s politics as usual as we witness scandal mongering, lies and intrigue in the corridors of power! A high energy production that combines the joy of Sheridan’s sharp wit with Lunatico’s thrilling and original use of songs, dance and physical comedy. The upcoming sessions will include physical improvisation and dance. Please be prepared to move and expect the unexpected! Newcomers always welcome.

THE MYSTERY NOVEL
Beginning with the Fall Series we will focus on mystery novels set in the period from 1914 to 1940. We will notice how events of World War I brought changes that dramatically shaped both that era and the lives of the characters. We will pay attention to the changes also occurring in other parts of the globe in the following
two decades.

PILATES
Sicilian-born Maria Mankin is a Stott Pilates Certified instructor, and with her background in Circus arts, brings fun and creativity into her classes. Her classes focus on body awareness, strength-training, core and stamina building, balance and well-being. She has worked with a variety of clients at different levels of fitness from the fittest athlete to the injured and recovering individual. Teaching with many Pilates props, while keeping a good pace for the group, Maria can adapt exercises suggesting appropriate modifications if needed.

GENTLE PILATES
A gentle approach to Pilates for people who have difficulties lying down on a mat. The class will focus on Pilates exercises which will improve movement, core strength and balance for the day to day life. Students will sit on a chair to perform gentle exercises with the help of different Pilates props such as balls, stretch bands etc.

SPIRIT DANCE
Join us every other Sunday for stretching (optional) and dancing. We will put pads out for those who want to start with yoga, and the music starts slowly, then builds. The dance is free-form, with a few suggestions from the leader. No experience or partners needed, just a willingness to move. Bring water and wear layers. Devi is certified by Dance Master Vin Marti, who designed Soul Motion after working with Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms.

Instructor Chris Anderl teaches healing movements as a lover of the natural wisdom of Ancient China. TAI CHI CHU’AN
We begin each class with warm-up exercises and Qigong breathing. New students learn the Tai Chi Chu’an form at their own pace and are individually taught. In this quiet and relaxing yoga class, gentle stretching postures are held for 3-5 minutes at a time. The stillness takes practitioners deep into postures that calm the mind, lengthen the connective tissues, and increase energy flow. This practice is very beneficial for the joints, especially the hips and lower back. Gentle enough all students, including seniors. A generous period is given at the end of class for a guided full-body relaxation, with live music by Tim Weed. Debbie Daly has been teaching yoga for 11 years and is the owner of an award-winning yoga studio in Arizona. Begins May 4th.

Elizabeth’s classes teach the fundamentals of Iyengar yoga. Connected movements, breath awareness, and an attentive mind as well as strength and flexibility, are cultivated in Elizabeth’s classes. Elizabeth attended teacher training at the Yoga Room in Berkeley and the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco, where she apprenticed with Judith Lasater. SYMMETRY OF MOVEMENT- YOGA BASED MOVEMENT WORKSHOP
Kim Holmes offers a mixed level class and encourages each student to tune into their own needs, as well as the group energy. She supports each individual toward the exploration of his/her own inner wisdom, guidance and self-creativity. In Kim’s classes the focus is to invite students to practice yoga-based movement in a safe, clear way. There is more emphasis on the actions of each movement and pose versus the outcome or end result. In class, students practice embodiment through movement by combining stretching and strengthening to bridge the concepts of fitness, yoga and creative flow.

WEDNESDAY: AFTER-SCHOOL ART PROGRAM
A multicultural art program taught in both English and Spanish for children ages 5–12 by Colleen Conley, West Marin School art teacher; Toni Littlejohn, mixed-media artist; and Dolores Gonzalez, whose native language is Spanish. Artists of many cultures will be invited to participate. The children will use two- and three-dimensional media - painting, printmaking, carpentry, ceramics, jewelry, and textiles - to develop their own unique expressions.

CREATIVE DANCE LAB
Students will explore improvisational Creative Dance at an intermediate level. Creative Dance Lab is an intermodal approach to movement and dance, which combines somatic movement, solo dance, group dance & ensemble skills, theater games, play, performance, rhythm, drawing, storytelling, and Scoring, an aspect of the RSVP Collective Creativity model. “It is my intention to create a playful and nurturing environment where children can express their unique creativity, gain self confidence, and develop the essential life skill of creative thinking.” No previous dance experience needed. Instructor Taira Restar has taught children and adults for over 25 years. She has an M.A. in movement education, is on faculty at Tamalpa Institute, and performs in Anna Halprin’s company. SENIOR BALANCE & FALL PREVENTION
If you have concerns about your balance, join us to improve your overall sense of balance while standing, walking and doing daily activities. Everyday balance is a skill that can be practiced and improved. Principles of T’ai Chi will be blended with massage and a variety of fall prevention skills. Nancy Vayhinger is a student of Fallproof! Fall Prevention and has practiced T’ai Chi for 7 years. She offers massage therapy for seniors in Point Reyes and Petaluma, and has taught balance classes to seniors for 3 years.

OUTDOOR RECREATION
Outdoor recreational facilities are available for your use at the Dance Palace, including a basketball half-court, volleyball net, and outdoor Ping-Pong table. Balls for basketball, soccer, and volleyball are available for public use in the holder next to the court; Ping-Pong paddles and balls are in a container by the Ping-Pong tables. Please return them when you are finished.
