CH’I GUNG: EXERCISES FOR LONGEVITY, HEALTH AND
HARMONY
This class focuses on immune circulation; acupressure points for stress and pain relief; brain-enhancing points for improving mental function; opening and stretching exercises for joints, connective tissue, muscles, and structural alignment. You’ll improve your physical balance, coordination, and strength, and reduce your risk of falls. Most of the exercises can be done while seated in a chair or sanding. Sponsored by the Dance Palace.

MOVING WITH LIFE
What we call body can be experienced as a continuum of unfolding movement. Our cells shimmer, bones spiral, and tissues undulate with intelligence and aliveness. Our breath can be felt as the wind of creation. Our sounds can be perceived as the echoes of primordial ancestors. Through sound, breath, and movement, we inquire into our capacity to innovate and participate with life.

INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCE
Folk dances from all over the world, including Serbia, Turkey, Rumania, Armenia, Bulgaria, Greece, and Israel. Beginners and newcomers are always welcome; no partner is necessary. INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCE FOR BEGINNERS
Have you always wanted to learn to folk dance? This class will be geared towards beginners, with a thorough introduction to basic steps, rhythms, and terminology. We’ll learn dances from all around the world, including the Balkans, Israel, and the U.S. Folk dancing promotes mental and physical fitness and is a wonderful way to meet new people, besides being just plain fun. Open to all ages.

MEDITATION GROUP
Meditate with your friends and neighbors. Everyone is welcome—no prior experience or particular spiritual orientation necessary. Sitting silently together, we encourage and enrich each other’s practice. A short talk follows a 40-minute session of meditation. Carrie and Stuart Kutchins have been practicing meditation for over 20 years. They were ordained in 1994 as Buddhist priests in the Soto Zen tradition of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi.

MOVING THE BODY, TENDING THE SOUL: AN INTRODUCTION TO AUHENTIC MOVEMENT
Authentic Movement is a practice rooted in Dance/Movement Therapy and Jungian Psychology. Simple in outer form, it is a profound inner-directed, embodied practice where a mover is invited to close her eyes and to move from an inner impulse while in the presence of a non-judgmental and compassionate outer witness/teacher. Together we create a safe space with the opportunity to venture into the realm of our being, where the seeds for change, healing and creativity may be discovered. PILATES
Sicilian-born Maria Mankin is a Stott Pilates Certified instructor, and with her background in Circus arts, brings fun and creativity into her classes. Her classes focus on body awareness, strength-training, core and stamina building, balance and well-being. She has worked with a variety of clients at different levels of fitness from the fittest athlete to the injured and recovering individual. Teaching with many Pilates props, while keeping a good pace for the group, Maria can adapt exercises suggesting appropriate modifications if needed.

SPIRIT DANCE
Come and dance your way to an open freshness, a deep river of creativity and soul, where you become the dance. It’s free-form and about “showing up” rather than “showing off.” Great music. No experience or partners needed, just willingness. Bring water and wear layers. Devi is certified by dance master Vin Marti, who designed Soul Motion after working with Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms.

TAI CHI CHU’AN
We begin each class with warm-up exercises and Qigong breathing. New students learn the Tai Chi Chu’an form at their own pace and are individually taught. Long-time students practice the set together and also learn weapon sets and shaolin. Ellen Serber was trained by Sifu Kuo Lien Ying, who certified her to teach in 1988. Elizabeth’s classes are based on Iyengar yoga while offering a gentle, supportive atmosphere, emphasizing dance-like movement, breath awareness, and an attentive. Elizabeth attended teacher training at the Yoga Room in Berkeley and the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco, where she apprenticed with Judith Lasater. She has taught yoga for beginning to intermediate students as well as adaptive and restorative yoga since 1991.

JULIA ROGERS YOGA - Summer Series at the Dance Palace
Julia is a Yoga Alliance Certified Hatha Yoga instructor and native of Pt. Reyes. She studied at the Shambhava School of Yoga in Boulder, CO, which is an Ashram (spiritual community). Julia is thrilled to begin this summer series at the Dance Palace and share the gift of yoga with her hometown.
Her approach to yoga is playful and non-intimidating, and she hopes to open her students' hearts to this joyous and beneficial tradition no matter their level of experience. At the Dance Palace, Julia wants to create a warm atmosphere for those who are looking to take that first step onto the mat feel empowered and safe.

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM
The Dance Palace After-school Program offers creative enrichment programs every afternoon Monday through Thursday, plus optional aftercare. Classes end mid-June. Participants will need to fill out registration forms for the school year and scholarships are available for anyone who needs assistance. Please note that there are no classes on Shoreline School District minimum days and school holidays.

A multicultural art program taught in both English and Spanish for children ages 5–12 by Colleen Conley, West Marin School art teacher; Toni Littlejohn, mixed-media artist; and Dolores Gonzalez, whose native language is Spanish. Artists of many cultures will be invited to participate. The children will use two- and three-dimensional media—painting, printmaking, carpentry, ceramics, jewelry, and textiles—to develop their own unique expressions.

Dance Palace Camp (for ages 6–12) focuses on creativity and imagination with hands-on, fun activities that foster the development of friendships and social skills. With our low camper-to-staff ratio, we are able to provide caring, personal attention to all campers and their families. DANCE PALACE CAMP COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM
The Counselor-in-Training Program (CIT) for boys and girls ages 13–15 offers leadership training, team building, problem solving, recreation, and supervised instruction in the skills necessary to be a super counselor and babysitter. The program includes first-aid/CPR training, art projects, and an all-day, naturalist-led kayak excursion.

SUMMER STOCK PLAYERS
The Dance Palace Summer Stock Players, a theater group for young adults ages 12 to 18 directed by Sam Fisher, will rehearse their summer production, Arsenic and Old Lace, with performances on July 31 and August 1–9. Each session will include a thorough warm-up, theater improvisations, and instruction in basic acting skills. Any teen interested in acting, costumes, set-building, lighting, production, and/or house management is welcome to participate. This program is made possible in part through a grant from Autodesk, Inc.

SENIOR ACCCESS
ADULT DAYCARE PROGRAM
Senior Access provides innovative day programs for older adults living with memory loss or chronic illness. The program includes exercise, social interaction, cultural activities, transportation, nutritious lunch and snacks. The program is an ideal way to stay connected and engaged. There will be a six week break during Dance Palace Summer Camp, June 22–July 22, but care and transportation can will be provided in San Rafael—call 491-2500 for details.

SENIOR YOGA
In this gentle yoga class especially for older men and women, we move from restful, supported postures to gentle warm-up movements to classical yoga postures. Each individual builds upon his/her strength, flexibility, and balance, giving careful attention to breathing and postural alignment. Elizabeth Barnet trained at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco and The Yoga Room in Berkeley, and has taught at the Dance Palace since 1991.

RECREATION
OUTDOOR RECREATION
Outdoor recreational facilities are available for your use at the Dance Palace, including a basketball half-court, volleyball net, and outdoor Ping-Pong tables. Balls for basketball, soccer, and volleyball are available for public use in the holder next to the curt; Ping-Pong paddles and balls are in a container by the Ping-Pong tables. Please return them when you are finished.

EXPLORATION
